Add Lard

Pig Lard

Pig fat. Once reviled as causing heart attacks and stroke , the real
facts are another story.

Lard from pastured animal have significant levels of fat soluble Vitamin D.  The primary fatty acid in this fat are of the monounsaturated type making this an oil that can take the heat.

Traditional lard was preferred for all type of baked goods from cookies to pies.  It provided a firm yet flaky pie crust with unparalleled taste and mouth feel.

Lacto-fermented Soda's

Kombucha

There is perhaps no greater need than these foods in our diet. Why?

In case it has escaped your attention we have been Coca-colonized. What we call the modern soda is nothing but liquid candy, not only devoid of nutrients but full of potent neurotoxins. Today this drink has the equivalent of 12 teaspoons of sugar. With unprecedented speed they have supplanted the traditional drinks people have used for millennia.

There is another way.

Lacto-fermented drinks contain valuable enzymes, beneficial bacteria, easily absorbed minerals and lactic acid. In colonial America two of the most popular drinks were ginger beer and root beer.

Enhanced with roots and herbs not only did they quench the thirst but aided digestion. Make the switch from Coke to the Real thing.

Broth

Broth

Your mother was right. Chicken soup is the cure for the flu. Not the kind of soup you find in the store, but rather one made the old fashioned way.

Traditional cultures made liberal use of bone broths and for good reason. Modern science has confirmed that many of the components are essential for health. Bone broths are a rich source of minerals especially calcium, magnesium and other trace minerals leached from the bones and vegetables.

These are both plentiful and more importantly in an easily assimilated form.

The next substance is gelatin and this makes for efficient digestion. In the stomach gelatin rich soups and gravy attract the digestive enzymes to the food one is eating. So the lesson is to return to eating cooked foods with plenty of tasty gravy and sauces for better digestive health.

We Have Ginger Beer!

Ginger Beer

Ginger beer is a naturally carbonated lacto-fermented drink containing numerous minerals, lactic acid beneficial lactobacilli and much needed enzymes.
